Recently, macOS Big Sur has become a popular topic among Apple users as it brings a new level of user experience, security, and privacy features. However, before you can enjoy its new features, you need to install it first. Unfortunately, sometimes the installation process fails, leading to frustration and anxiety. But don’t worry, in this article, we will guide you on how to fix macOS Big Sur installation when it fails.

Step 1: Check the Compatibility of Your Mac

macOS Big Sur has specific requirements that must be met by your Mac, such as a compatible Mac model and enough storage. If your Mac is not compatible, the installation will undoubtedly fail. To check for compatibility, you can visit Apple’s website and search for “macOS Big Sur compatible Mac models.” If your Mac model is not listed, you cannot install Big Sur on your computer.

Step 2: Check Your Disk Space

Ensure that you have enough storage on your computer before you begin the installation process. This is critical because macOS Big Sur requires sufficient disk space to install correctly. You can check your current disk space by clicking on the Apple menu, selecting “About This Mac,” and selecting the “Storage” tab. If you have insufficient storage, you can free up some space by removing unwanted files and deleting unnecessary apps.

Step 3: Restart Your Mac

Sometimes, restarting your Mac can fix unexpected software issues that may be affecting the installation process. Therefore, before you retry the installation process, restart your Mac and try again.

Step 4: Check for Software Updates

Ensure that your Mac is up to date before installing macOS Big Sur. You can check for software updates by clicking on the Apple menu, selecting “System Preferences,” selecting “Software Update,” and then following the instructions on the screen.

Step 5: Connect to a Stable Internet Connection

The stability of your internet connection can significantly affect the installation process. If you are using a Wi-Fi network, ensure that the signal strength is strong and stable, or switch to a wired Ethernet connection. A weak or unstable internet connection can cause the macOS Big Sur installation process to fail.

Step 6: Boot Your Mac in Safe Mode

Sometimes third-party software or malware may interfere with the installation process of macOS Big Sur, causing it to fail. To resolve this, boot your Mac in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key while booting. Safe Mode will disable third-party software and startups, enabling you to attempt the installation process without any interference.

Step 7: Reinstall the macOS Big Sur Installer

Sometimes, the macOS Big Sur installation process may fail due to a corrupted installer. In this case, you can download the installer again from the App Store and attempt the installation process once more.

Conclusion

Installing macOS Big Sur comes with a lot of benefits, but sometimes the installation process may fail, leading to frustration and anxiety. However, the above steps can help you resolve installation issues and complete the process successfully. It is vital to remember that before attempting to install macOS Big Sur, ensure that your Mac model is compatible and has enough storage. Additionally, always make sure to back up your data before the installation process to prevent the loss of essential files in case of unexpected issues.
