How to Connect Two Sets of AirPods to the Same Mac
AirPods have been a revolutionary product from Apple. Their portability and convenience have made them a favorite accessory among Mac and iOS users. But what if you want to share your Mac screen with someone, and both of you are using AirPods? In this article, we’ll discuss the steps to connect two sets of AirPods to the same Mac.
Before we dive into the steps, let’s understand the technicalities of how AirPods work. AirPods connect to a device using Bluetooth technology. They work seamlessly with iOS devices like iPhones and iPads because of Apple’s proprietary W1 chip. However, with Macs, the connection is not always as smooth. Two sets of AirPods cannot be connected to the same Mac in the traditional way because a Mac can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time.
But not to worry, there’s a simple workaround. You can use the audio sharing feature on your Mac to connect two sets of AirPods.
Here are the steps to connect two sets of AirPods to the same Mac:
Step 1: Make sure that both AirPods are connected to the Mac. You can check this by clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the top-right corner of the screen. If both AirPods are connected, skip to step 2. If not, connect the first set of AirPods to your Mac.
Step 2: Play audio on your Mac to ensure that the audio is playing through the first set of AirPods.
Step 3: Control-click (or right-click) the audio icon in the menu bar and select “Open sound preferences.”
Step 4: Go to the “Output” tab and click on the dropdown menu next to “Output Device.”
Step 5: Select the first set of AirPods from the list.
Step 6: Open the Bluetooth menu in System Preferences, and select the second set of AirPods.
Step 7: Return to the “Sound” preferences window and hold down the Option (Alt) key on your keyboard. Click on the dropdown menu next to “Output Device.” You will see that the second set of AirPods is now visible.
Step 8: Select the second set of AirPods from the dropdown menu.
You have now successfully connected two sets of AirPods to the same Mac. You can now share the audio from your Mac with someone else without having to switch the AirPods between two devices.
One thing to keep in mind is that both sets of AirPods may not have the same volume levels. If this is causing an issue, you can adjust the volume levels for each set of AirPods individually from the “Volume” dropdown menu in the “Sound” preferences window.
