What Is Tesla Dog Mode and How Does It Work?

Tesla Dog Mode is a feature that is specifically designed to keep pets inside a parked Tesla vehicle in a comfortable temperature without fear of overheating or hypothermia. As the name implies, it was primarily designed with our furry friends in mind. The feature was first introduced in 2018 to provide an added security and convenience to dog owners who frequently travel with their pets. It has since then become a popular feature in most Tesla models.

But what exactly is the Tesla Dog Mode, and how does it work? In this article, we’ll take a closer look at this feature and what pet owners can expect from it.

What is Tesla Dog Mode?

Tesla Dog Mode is a feature that allows owners to set and maintain a comfortable temperature for their pets while they are parked in the car. It is basically an extension of the automatic climate control system in Tesla vehicles that makes sure the inside temperature is comfortable and safe for pets. This feature also displays a message on the Tesla’s center console informing passersby that the pet is safe and comfortable inside the vehicle.

How Does It Work?

The Tesla Dog Mode is pretty straight forward to use. To activate it, you need to follow these simple steps:

1. Once parked, tap on the fan icon at the bottom of the touchscreen.

2. Set the temperature using the sliders.

The temperature ranges from 20 to 32 degrees Celsius (68 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit), depending on your pet’s needs.

3. Tap on the dog icon to activate the mode.

This will lock the touchscreen and display a message notifying anyone nearby that the pet is safe inside the parked vehicle.

Note:

The Tesla will continue to run the air conditioning until the battery level reaches about 20%. This means that you don’t have to worry about draining the battery while using Dog Mode.
Benefits of Tesla Dog Mode

1. Stops passersby from breaking into the car.

One of the significant benefits of Tesla Dog Mode is that it provides a level of security for pets inside the vehicle. It displays an on-screen message that alerts passersby that the pet is safe and healthy, reducing the likelihood of someone trying to break into the vehicle to save the dog.

2. Keeps your pets comfortable and healthy.

Pet owners can use the Tesla Dog Mode to keep their pets comfortable during their journeys. It keeps the temperature at an optimal level, preventing overheating or hypothermia, especially during extreme weather conditions.

3. Saves on energy consumption

Since Tesla vehicles run on electricity, the Dog Mode helps the battery usage by optimizing the temperature regulation system. The system will only activate when necessary, which helps preserve energy levels and save battery.
