Exploiting the Ronin’s Cooldown Periods

In Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1, one of the keys to defeating Ronins lies in understanding and exploiting their ability cooldown periods. Ronins possess powerful abilities that make them formidable opponents, but these abilities are not constantly available. By recognizing and capitalizing on these cooldown periods, you can gain a significant advantage in combat.

The Ronin’s primary ability, “Shadow Step,” allows them to become semi-transparent and move quickly for a short duration. This ability is incredibly powerful for both offensive pushes and evasive maneuvers. However, it has a cooldown period of approximately 15 seconds after use. This cooldown is your window of opportunity.

To exploit this cooldown, you need to bait the Ronin into using their Shadow Step prematurely. One effective strategy is to engage in a brief firefight and then quickly retreat behind cover. Many Ronins will instinctively use Shadow Step to pursue, thinking they have the upper hand. Once they’ve used the ability, immediately counter-attack. Without Shadow Step, the Ronin loses much of their mobility advantage, making them more vulnerable to your assault.

Another key ability to watch for is the Ronin’s “Blade Barrier.” This defensive technique can deflect incoming projectiles for a short time but has a longer cooldown of about 30 seconds. After a Ronin uses Blade Barrier, they’re particularly vulnerable to sustained fire. Keep track of when they use this ability and coordinate with your team (if in a squad game) to focus fire on the Ronin immediately after the barrier drops.

It’s crucial to develop a sense of timing for these cooldowns. While the game doesn’t display enemy cooldowns, you can internalize the timing with practice. Start counting (mentally or out loud) when you see a Ronin use an ability. This will help you anticipate when their abilities will be available again.

One advanced technique is to force the Ronin to waste their abilities. For instance, you can use a Decoy Grenade to trick them into using Shadow Step or Blade Barrier against a fake target. Once they’ve fallen for the bait, you can engage them while their key defensive options are on cooldown.

Remember that Ronins often rely heavily on their abilities, sometimes to the point of overreliance. When their abilities are on cooldown, many Ronin players feel vulnerable and may make mistakes. Use this psychological edge to your advantage. Be extra aggressive during these cooldown periods, as the Ronin may be off-balance and more prone to errors.

In squad games, communication is key when exploiting cooldowns. Call out when you see a Ronin use their abilities so your teammates can coordinate their attacks accordingly. A well-timed push from multiple angles during a cooldown period can quickly overwhelm even a skilled Ronin.

It’s also worth noting that while abilities are on cooldown, Ronins often resort to more conventional tactics. They may try to build for protection or switch to ranged weapons. Be prepared for this shift in tactics and adjust your strategy accordingly. This might be a good time to close the distance if you’re comfortable with close-quarters combat, as the Ronin has temporarily lost their main close-range advantage.

To further exploit cooldowns, consider using items that can extend the effective cooldown period. For example, using a Stink Bomb or a Firefly Jar immediately after a Ronin’s Blade Barrier ends can force them to keep moving, preventing them from setting up a strong defensive position while they wait for their abilities to recharge.

Lastly, always be aware of your own positioning when attempting to exploit a Ronin’s cooldowns. While they may be more vulnerable during these periods, they are still dangerous opponents. Maintain good cover and be ready to build defensively if the Ronin manages to turn the tables.

By mastering the art of exploiting the Ronin’s cooldown periods, you’ll significantly increase your chances of emerging victorious in these encounters. Remember, timing and awareness are key. With practice, you’ll develop an intuitive sense of when to push and when to hold back, turning the Ronin’s moments of vulnerability into your moments of triumph.
