As computer use becomes more and more prevalent in our daily lives, it is essential to know how to keep our systems running smoothly. Virtual memory is an essential aspect of a computer’s performance, and when it gets low, it can cause the system to slow down, freeze or even crash. Fortunately, increasing the virtual memory in Windows 10 is a straightforward process. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Check Your Current Virtual Memory

Before upgrading your virtual memory, you first need to check how much virtual memory your system is using. To do this, Right-click on the computer icon on your desktop, and then select Properties. From here click on the Advanced system settings tab, under the Advanced tab click on the Settings under the Performance section, then click Advanced. Finally, click on the Change button under the Virtual memory section. You can now check the current amount of allocated virtual memory.

  1. Determine the Recommended Virtual Memory

To find the suggested memory size for your system, consult your computer’s documentation, or follow these steps:

– First, determine the amount of RAM installed on your system. Typically, most computers come with at least 4 GB of RAM, but many have 8 GB or more.

– Once you know how much RAM your computer has, multiply that number by 1.5 (150%).

– The result of the multiplication is the recommended minimum amount of virtual memory.

  1. Increase Your Virtual Memory

Now that you know the recommended amount of virtual memory you should have, it’s time to increase it. Here’s how:

– Navigate back to the window where you checked your virtual memory and clicked on Change.

– Uncheck the box that says “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”. This is important to have complete control over the virtual memory allocation.

– Select the Custom size option under the Custom size section.

– In the Initial size(MB) field, input the recommended amount of virtual memory.

– In the Maximum size (MB) field, input the same amount recommended.

– Click on Set and then click on OK to save your changes.

  1. Restart your Computer

After making changes to your virtual memory allocation, the last step is restarting your computer to apply the new settings fully.

In conclusion, increasing virtual memory on Windows 10 is an easy process. It is essential to allow your system to keep running smoothly by regularly checking the size of your virtual memory and adjusting it according to the recommended minimum amount. Following the steps given above will enable you to have optimal virtual memory performance on your Windows 10 computer, allowing your computer to operate at its best.
