What Is a Vertical Monitor? And Why Would You Need One?

A vertical monitor is a computer display screen that is oriented in a portrait rather than a landscape format. Simply put, it is a monitor that is taller than it is wide. Vertical monitors are becoming increasingly popular in contemporary workplaces, where employees are required to multitask and work with lengthy documents and spreadsheets. The vertical monitor provides a better display for these tasks and makes it easier to handle complex data.

The main advantage of a vertical monitor is the additional vertical screen space that it provides. This is because it is easier to read and edit documents, view web pages and emails, and manage files. With a vertical monitor, users can display more content on their screens without having to scroll left and right. This increases productivity and enhances the user experience.

Another benefit of having a vertical monitor is that it can lessen the strain on your neck and eyes. This is because it aligns better with your natural field of vision that is more vertical than horizontal. Working on a horizontal monitor for an extended period may lead to a stiff neck and back pains. Users can rotate vertical monitors to get the optimal viewing angle they need to reduce neck strain and improve comfort while working.

Vertical monitors also have multiple display options, allowing multiple tasks to be performed at once. You can have an email or resource list on one side of the screen while working on another task on the primary screen. This capability is especially valuable for professionals, like graphic designers, software developers, or data analysts, who need to reference multiple files simultaneously. Even gamers have found that vertical monitors are ideal for playing certain types of games that benefit from a taller viewing window.
