Your iPhone Pro Has LiDAR: Cool Things You Can Do With It

Apple recently introduced the LiDAR scanner in its latest iPhone Pro models, and it has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for users. LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging, which means that the scanner measures the distance and depth of objects using laser-based technology. This feature is not only cool to use, but it also allows users to take their photography and augmented reality experiences to the next level. Here are some cool things you can do with LiDAR on your iPhone Pro.

1. Measure the Dimensions of Your Room

Tired of using a tape measure? LiDAR has got you covered. By scanning your room with the iPhone Pro, you can easily measure the dimensions of your space. This feature is particularly helpful when you’re trying to decide on furniture placement or planning a home renovation project.

2. Improved Augmented Reality Experience

LiDAR can more accurately map the environment, which means that augmented reality apps will have less trouble placing virtual objects in the real world. This improved accuracy makes for a more immersive and realistic augmented reality experience. For example, the Ikea app allows you to visualize furniture in your home, and the Wayfair app lets you place virtual 3D models of furniture in your space.

3. Night Mode Portraits

The LiDAR scanner is great for low-light photography. The night mode feature on the iPhone Pro has improved thanks to LiDAR, and it is particularly evident in portrait mode. With LiDAR, the camera can now better separate the subject from the background, creating stunning, professional-looking portraits even in dim light.

4. Better Quality Scanning

The LiDAR scanner can help produce accurate 3D scans of objects. This feature is particularly helpful for those in the architectural, engineering, and construction fields. LiDAR can be used to scan buildings, roads, and other structures to create detailed and accurate visualizations of existing conditions.

5. Improved AR Measuring

The LiDAR scanner helps AR measuring apps to more accurately measure distances and areas. This means that you can use your iPhone Pro to measure anything from the length of a board to the perimeter of your backyard. This feature is particularly helpful for those in real estate or home improvement, but it can also be used for personal use.

Overall, the LiDAR scanner on the iPhone Pro offers a range of new and exciting features for users. From better photography to improved AR experiences, LiDAR has opened up new possibilities for users to explore. With this new technology at hand, the future of mobile devices is looking bright.
