Ways to Disable the Touchpad in Windows 10
If you prefer using a mouse or have accidentally touched the touchpad while typing, disabling the touchpad on your Windows 10 device can be incredibly useful. Here are some ways you can disable the touchpad in Windows 10:
1. Use the Function Key:
Most laptops have a function key (Fn) that can be used to disable the touchpad. Press and hold the Fn key and press the corresponding touchpad key (usually one of the function keys above the row of numbers). This should deactivate the touchpad.
2. Use the Device Manager:
Another way to disable the touchpad is to use the Device Manager in Windows 10. To do this, open the Device Manager, find the touchpad driver and right-click on it. Select Disable from the options given. Alternatively, you can also right-click on the touchpad driver and select Uninstall. This will completely remove the driver and disable the touchpad.
3. Use Mouse Properties:
Mouse Properties is another way to disable the touchpad in Windows 10. To access Mouse Properties, go to the Start menu, search for “Mouse” and click on “Mouse settings”. In the “Touchpad” section, you will see an option that says “Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected”. Turn off this option and the touchpad will be disabled.
4. Use a Third-Party App:
If the above options do not work or are too complicated, you can also use third-party apps to disable the touchpad in Windows 10. One such app is TouchFreeze. This app automatically disables the touchpad while you are typing and enables it again when you stop typing.
5. Update Your Drivers:
Finally, if you are still having trouble disabling the touchpad, it may be because you need to update your touchpad driver. Go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver for your touchpad. Once the driver is updated, the touchpad should be disabled as per your settings.
