Text-based adventure games are a great way to pass the time and flex your problem-solving muscles. Unlike graphic-intensive games, text-based games rely on the power of words to immerse you in the game world, and often present you with puzzles and riddles to solve. The best part? You don’t need any fancy hardware or software to play text-based games; all you need is a browser! Here are some of the best text-based adventure games you can play in your browser.

1. A Dark Room

A Dark Room is a popular text-based game that leaves you in charge of a small village in a post-apocalyptic world. You’ll need to gather resources like wood and ore, make decisions about how to allocate your people and supplies, and fend off intruders. The game starts slow, but quickly ramps up the tension as you’re forced to make tough choices that can mean life or death for your people.

2. Adventure

Adventure is a classic text-based game that’s been around since the 1970s. In it, you’ll control a character as they explore a twisty maze full of dangers and puzzles. The game’s minimalistic graphics and sound effects, combined with its challenging gameplay, have made it a favorite of gamers for decades.

3. Zork

Zork is another classic text-based game that was popular in the 1980s. In it, you’ll explore a vast underground world filled with strange creatures, curious puzzles, and hidden treasures. The game’s rich world-building and clever writing have made it a beloved part of gaming history.

4. Fallen London

Fallen London is an immersive text-based game set in a fantastical version of Victorian London. The game takes place in a universe where a strange event has caused London to be dragged into an underworld full of monsters and magic. You’ll navigate this twisted city, building your character’s reputation and uncovering dark secrets along the way.

5. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a text-based game based on the classic book series of the same name. In it, you’ll play as the hapless Arthur Dent as he travels through space with his alien friend Ford Prefect. The game’s humor and clever puzzles are sure to keep you entertained for hours.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
