Is Apple Killing the iPhone Mini?

As the smartphone market continues to evolve, there appears to be a growing concern among tech enthusiasts about the fate of Apple’s iPhone Mini. The iPhone Mini, which was unveiled in 2020 as part of the iPhone 12 series, was designed to serve as a more affordable alternative to the main iPhone models.

However, recent reports and rumors suggest that Apple may be killing off its iPhone Mini series due to underwhelming sales figures. According to a report by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), the iPhone 12 Mini accounted for only 6% of total iPhone sales in the first quarter of 2021, despite being launched alongside three other new models.

This trend continued into the second quarter of the year, where the iPhone 12 Mini sales figures dropped to 5% of total iPhone sales. This is in stark contrast to the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max models, which accounted for 30% and 14% of total iPhone sales, respectively, in the same period.

While Apple has not officially announced any plans to discontinue the iPhone Mini, the company has reportedly scaled back its production orders for the device. Bloomberg reported in April 2021 that Apple cut its production plans for the second quarter by over 20%, suggesting that the company is not confident in the device’s sales numbers.

One possible reason for the iPhone Mini’s lackluster sales is its relatively small size. While some users may prefer a more compact phone, others may find the Mini’s 5.4-inch display to be too small for their needs. Additionally, the iPhone 12 Mini’s starting price of $699 may still be too high for budget-conscious buyers who are looking for a more affordable smartphone option.

Another contributing factor to the iPhone Mini’s struggles is the current COVID-19 pandemic. With many people working from home and spending less time outside, there may be less demand for a smaller, portable device.

Despite the challenges facing the iPhone Mini, Apple may not completely give up on the device. The company may choose to reduce its production levels and marketing efforts for the Mini, but it could still release a new model in the future with new features and improvements.

In the end, the future of the iPhone Mini remains uncertain. While it may not be performing as well as Apple had hoped, there are still users who enjoy its compact size and affordable price point. Only time will tell whether Apple will continue to invest in the iPhone Mini or focus its efforts on its more popular iPhone models.
