How to Use Remote Desktop on Windows 8
With the increasing shift towards remote work, it’s important to know how to access and manage your computer from a distance. Remote Desktop is a built-in feature of Windows 8 that allows users to connect and interact with another computer as if they were physically sitting in front of it. In this article, we will discuss how to set up and use Remote Desktop in Windows 8.

Please note that this will only work if your edition of Windows 8 supports Remote Desktop. It is only available for Windows 8 Pro and

3. Locate Your External IP Address
Your external IP address is required for connecting remotely over the internet:
a. Visit a website like [https://www.whatismyip.com](https://www.whatismyip.com) or search for ‘what is my IP’ in Google to find your external IP address.
4. Configure Your Router (Only Required for Remote Access Over the Internet)
You must forward the Remote Desktop port (3389) on your router for remote access over the internet:
a. Log into your router’s configuration menu.
b. Locate the ‘Port Forwarding’ or ‘Virtual Servers’ section.
c. Add a new rule to forward TCP port 3389 to the static IP address you set up in step 2.
d. Save your changes, and restart your router if prompted.
5. Connect to the Remote Computer
a. On the device you want to connect from, press ‘Windows Key + R’, type ‘mstsc’, and press Enter.
b. Enter the remote computer’s IP address (use external IP address if connecting over the internet).
c. Click on ‘Connect’, and when prompted, enter your username and password for the remote computer.
d. Click on ‘OK’, and you’ll be connected to the remote computer via Remote Desktop.
