How to Use a Bidet: 10 Steps
A bidet is an essential bathroom fixture that provides a convenient and eco-friendly way to clean yourself after using the toilet. If you are new to bidets, you may be unsure about the correct way to use one. Here are ten steps to help you use a bidet with ease and confidence.
1. Finish using the toilet: Before you start using the bidet, make sure you have completed your business in the toilet.
2. Locate the bidet: The bidet is typically located next to or close to the toilet. It may look like a small basin or have a nozzle attached to the side of the toilet bowl.
3. Position yourself: If you are using a standalone bidet, gently sit on it by straddling it, facing either its faucet or controls. For a toilet seat attachment, remain seated on your toilet.
4. Adjust the water temperature: Most bidets allow you to control the water temperature. Turn the knobs or press buttons until you find a comfortable warm setting.
5. Control water pressure: Along with temperature, many bidets let you adjust water pressure. Begin with low pressure and slowly increase as needed for your comfort.
6. Start cleansing: Activate the spray by turning on the faucet or pressing a button on your toilet seat attachment. Allow the water to cleanse your private area for a few seconds or until you feel completely clean.
7. Use of nozzle: Some bidets come with multiple nozzles that can be adjusted for different cleaning purposes such as front wash and rear wash. Choose an appropriate nozzle according to your preference and cleaning requirements.
8. Drying off: Turn off the water spray once you’re done cleansing yourself. Many bidets have built-in air dryers; simply press the designated button and wait for warm air to dry your skin gently. If no air dryer is available, use a small amount of toilet paper or a dedicated towel to pat dry.
9. Clean the bidet: If you sat on a standalone bidet, use a small amount of water and your hand to rinse it down. Dispose of any debris or toilet paper in the trash, not the bidet.
10. Wash your hands: Always remember to wash your hands after using a bidet, as you would after using the restroom.
In time, incorporating these ten steps into your bathroom routine will become second nature. Using a bidet is not only an excellent way to maintain personal hygiene but also promotes environmental sustainability by reducing the use of toilet paper.
