Resetting the mouse and keyboard settings to their defaults is a common troubleshooting step that can solve many problems with these input devices on a Windows computer. Whether you’ve accidentally changed some settings or your mouse or keyboard is not responding as it should, resetting the settings to their defaults can often fix the issue.

Below, we’ll show you how to reset the mouse and keyboard settings to their defaults on Windows, step by step.

Resetting Mouse Settings:

Step 1: Open the Start menu and click on the Settings gear icon, or press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

Step 2: Click on “Devices” in the settings menu.

Step 3: Click on “Mouse & touchpad” in the left-hand menu.

Step 4: Scroll down to “Additional mouse options” and click on it.

Step 5: In the Mouse Properties window that opens, click on the “Hardware” tab.

Step 6: Click on the “Properties” button.

Step 7: Click on the “Change settings” button under the “General” tab.

Step 8: Click on the “Driver” tab and then click on the “Uninstall” button.

Step 9: Restart your PC. Windows will automatically reinstall the mouse driver with its default settings.

Resetting Keyboard Settings:

Step 1: Open the Start menu and click on the Settings gear icon, or press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

Step 2: Click on “Time & Language” in the settings menu.

Step 3: Click on “Language” in the left-hand menu.

Step 4: Click on “Keyboard”.

Step 5: Click on “Options” and then click on “Remove”.

Step 6: Restart your PC. Windows will automatically reinstall the keyboard driver with its default settings.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
