How to Marry in Skyrim
Introduction
Skyrim, the beautiful and treacherous realm of The Elder Scrolls V, offers countless adventures, riches, and perils for players to dive into. But what’s a hero without someone to share their victories and triumphs with? That’s right; we’re talking about marriage! In the world of Skyrim, love and marriage offer valuable in-game bonuses, such as companionship in battle or added income. So, here’s a guide on how to tie the knot in Skyrim and embark on a life journey with your beloved.
Step 1: Acquire the Amulet of Mara
To begin your marital quest, you first need to acquire the Amulet of Mara. This amulet is necessary to show potential spouses that you are interested in marriage. There are a few ways to get your hands on one:
1. Purchase it from Maramal, an NPC found in Riften’s Temple of Mara or The Bee and Barb.
2. Find it randomly in loot chests.
3. Pick it up as a reward after completing “The Book of Love” quest provided by Dinya Balu in the Temple of Mara.
Step 2: Speak with Your Desired Spouse
Now that you have the Amulet of Mara equipped, it’s time to court your desired partner! There are many eligible NPCs scattered across Skyrim, each with their own preferences, stats, benefits, and requirements. Some may require you to complete specific quests or favors for them before they consider marrying you.
Approach a potential spouse while wearing the Amulet of Mara (ensure it is visible) and spark up a conversation. If an NPC is eligible for marriage, you will see the option to propose.
Step 3: Prepare for the Wedding Ceremony
After proposing successfully, your future spouse will direct you to speak with Maramal to arrange the wedding. Travel back to Riften and visit Maramal at the Temple of Mara again. Inform him of your engagement, and he will schedule the ceremony for the following day (in-game time).
Before you leave, make sure you have a house or an owned bed for you and your spouse to share after the wedding ceremony.
Step 4: Attend Your Wedding
Wait around 24 in-game hours and head back to the Temple of Mara for your wedding. NPCs who have befriended you might attend as guests, along with some standard attendees. When you arrive, enter, and approach the altar, Maramal will initiate the ceremony. After exchanging vows, congratulations are in order – you are now married!
Step 5: Post-Wedding Perks
Marriage in Skyrim comes with several benefits:
1. Your spouse can act as a companion during your adventures.
2. Spouses may open up a store that generates income.
3. Being “Lover’s Comfort” bonus will grant your character a temporary 15% increase in experience points gained by sleeping next to your spouse.
Finally, remember that each spouse has unique abilities, characteristics, and preferences. Choose wisely and enjoy a lifetime partner who can support you through all your Skyrim endeavors!
