Microsoft Teams is a popular communication and collaboration tool that has become even more essential in the age of remote work. One problem that users may encounter is video lag during video meetings or calls. This can be a frustrating issue, especially when it hinders communication and productivity. In this article, we will discuss some steps that can help fix video lag in Microsoft Teams on Windows.

Step 1: Check Your Internet Connection

The first step in addressing video lag in Microsoft Teams is to check your internet connection. Poor internet connection can result in video lag during video meetings or calls. Ensure that you have a stable and strong internet connection. You can use online speed tests to check your internet speed and diagnose network issues. If you have a poor connection, try resetting your router or contacting your internet service provider to improve your connection.

Step 2: Close Other Programs

Running several programs on your computer simultaneously may result in video lag when using Microsoft Teams. Close any other unnecessary programs that may be using a significant amount of processor or memory resources. This will help improve the performance of Microsoft Teams and reduce video lag.

Step 3: Update Microsoft Teams

Ensure that you have the latest version of Microsoft Teams installed on your computer. Updates often include fixes and improvements that can help reduce video lag during video meetings or calls. To check for updates, open Microsoft Teams, click on your profile picture, select the About option, and click on Check for updates.

Step 4: Adjust Video Settings

Adjusting the video settings in Microsoft Teams can help to reduce video lag. Click on your profile picture and select Settings. In the Settings section, select Devices. Under the Camera section, choose a lower resolution for the video. This will reduce the processing power required to operate the video, and decrease video lag. You can also turn off video effects, such as background blur or virtual backgrounds.

Step 5: Switch to Audio Only

If video lag persists, you may want to consider switching to audio only. This will reduce the processing power required to operate both audio and video, and reduce video lag. You can switch to audio only by clicking on the camera icon during a video call.

In conclusion, Microsoft Teams is an excellent tool for communication and collaboration, but video lag can be a frustrating issue. By following these steps, you should be able to resolve video lag and enjoy uninterrupted video calls and meetings. Ensure that you have a stable internet connection, close other programs that may be using resources, update Microsoft Teams, adjust video settings, and switch to audio only if necessary.
