If you’ve ever needed to record your actions on a Windows computer to troubleshoot a problem or show someone how to perform a task, you’re in luck. Windows has built-in software called “Steps Recorder” that allows you to create a detailed record of all the actions you take on your computer, complete with screenshots and descriptions. Here’s how to use it:

Step 1: Open Steps Recorder

To open Steps Recorder, press the Windows key + R, type “psr” in the Run dialog box, and press Enter. You can also find Steps Recorder by searching for it in the Start menu.

Step 2: Start Recording

Click the “Start Record” button in the Steps Recorder window to begin recording your actions. Any actions you take on your computer will be captured, along with a screenshot of each step and any comments you make.

Step 3: Perform the Necessary Actions

Perform the actions that you want to record, whether it’s troubleshooting a problem or demonstrating a task. You can also add comments to each step by clicking the “Add Comment” button in the Steps Recorder window.

Step 4: Stop Recording

When you’re done recording your actions, click the “Stop Record” button in the Steps Recorder window. You’ll be prompted to save the recorded steps as a file.

Step 5: Review the Recorded Steps

Open the saved file to review the recorded steps. You can see each individual action you took on your computer, the screenshots of each step, and any comments you added along the way.

Steps Recorder is a helpful tool for troubleshooting issues on your computer, demonstrating how to perform a task, or documenting a process. Give it a try and see how it can make your computing life easier!

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
