YouTube has become an essential platform for sharing video content with the world. However, as a content creator, it’s important to have a backup of your work. YouTube does have an option to download your own videos, but it’s not always obvious how to do it. In this article, we’ll walk you through the steps to download your own YouTube videos.

Step 1: Go to your channel’s Video Manager

Log in to your YouTube account and click on your profile icon at the top right corner of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select “YouTube Studio.” On the left-hand sidebar of your Studio account, click on “Videos,” which will take you to your channel’s Video Manager.

Step 2: Select the video you want to download

Scroll through your video list and select the video you want to download. Hover over the video thumbnail and click the pencil icon to edit the video.

Step 3: Go to the “Advanced Settings” tab

In the new window that opens up, scroll down to the “Advanced Settings” tab, which should be the last item on the left-hand sidebar. Click on it, and it will bring up a new page with several options.

Step 4: Click on “Download MP4”

Under the “Distribution Options” section, you’ll see the option to “Allow viewers to download this video.” Check the box next to it, and then click the “Save” button to activate the new download feature. Now, when viewers view your video, they’ll see a download button in the bottom right corner of the video player window. They can click on this to download the video to their local device.

Step 5: Download your own video

Now that your video has the download option enabled, you can also download the video to your own device. Just return to the “Video Manager” page, click on the title of the video you want to download, and it will take you to the video’s watch page. Click the “Download” button in the bottom right corner of the video player, and your video will be saved to your device.

In summary, downloading your own YouTube videos is easy once you know how. It’s an important step for any content creator to have a backup of their work. By enabling the download option, you not only provide a convenient option for your viewers but also have the option to download the video yourself.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
