How Much Power Does My Windows PC Use? Here’s How to Find Out

As technology becomes more integrated into our daily lives, it’s important to understand the power usage of our devices, including our Windows PCs. Knowing how much power your PC uses can help you reduce your energy bills and potentially even help the planet by reducing your carbon footprint.
To find out how much power your Windows PC uses, there are a few different methods you can try.

Method 1: Use Windows Task Manager

One of the easiest ways to check your PC’s power usage is to use the Task Manager built into Windows. Here’s how:
1. Right-click on the taskbar and select “Task Manager.”
2. Click on the “Performance” tab.
3. Click on “CPU” in the left-hand pane.
4. Look for the “Power Usage” graph in the right-hand pane. It should give you an estimate of how much power your PC is using.
Note that the “Power Usage” graph is only available on certain versions of Windows 10. If you don’t see it in your version, try one of the other methods.

Method 2: Use a Power Meter

If you want a more accurate measurement of your PC’s power usage, you can use a power meter. These devices plug into your PC’s power outlet and measure the amount of electricity your PC is using in real-time.
To use a power meter:
1. Purchase a power meter from a hardware store or online retailer.
2. Connect the power meter to your PC’s power outlet.
3. Turn on your PC and monitor the power usage displayed on the meter.
4. Leave your PC running for a few hours to get an average power usage.

Method 3: Use Powercfg

If you’re comfortable using the Windows command prompt, you can use the Powercfg command to get a detailed report of your PC’s power usage. Here’s how:
1. Click the Start menu and type “cmd” to open the Command Prompt.
2. Type “powercfg /energy” and hit Enter.
3. Wait for the process to complete. This usually takes about a minute.
4. Open the report generated by the command by going to the folder specified in the command prompt.
5. Scroll down to the “Battery” section to see your PC’s power usage.
