7 Ways to Clean a Mascara Brush

A clean mascara brush is essential for achieving clump-free, defined lashes. Over time, mascara builds up on the brush, making it difficult to apply and causing flaking or smudging. Cleaning your mascara brush regularly can extend the life of your product and ensure a smooth application. In this article, we’ll explore seven easy ways to clean your mascara brush and maintain its optimal condition.

1. Use Soap And Water

To clean your mascara brush with soap and water, begin by removing the wand from the mascara tube. Rinse the wand under lukewarm water for a few seconds and then add a drop of mild soap or dish detergent onto the bristles. Gently massage the soap into the bristles and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

2. Baby Shampoo or Mild Shampoo

Using baby shampoo or a mild shampoo is another effective method to clean your mascara brush. As with soap and water, apply a small amount of shampoo to the brush bristles and gently work it in using your fingers or an old toothbrush. Thoroughly rinse under warm water until all the shampoo residue is gone.

3. Oil-Free Makeup Remover

If you prefer to avoid using soap or shampoo, an oil-free makeup remover can also be used to clean your mascara brush. Dip your wand into a small container filled with makeup remover and gently swirl it around for several seconds. Rinse under warm water and pat dry with a towel.

4. Rubbing Alcohol

For a more thorough cleaning or to sanitize your brush, rubbing alcohol can be utilized as well. Place some rubbing alcohol in a dish or small container, and then dip the wand into the solution, ensuring all bristles are submerged. Let it sit for 30 seconds before rinsing with warm water.

5. Use A Spoolie Brush

A spoolie brush is an excellent tool for cleaning mascara brushes. Run the spoolie brush along your mascara wand, combing through the bristles to remove excess product. Rinse the mascara wand under warm water and repeat the steps until it’s clean.

6. Micellar Water

Micellar water is effective in breaking down makeup and can be used for cleaning mascara brushes. Pour a small amount onto a paper towel or cotton pad, and gently rub the brush onto the moistened surface. Repeat this process with clean portions of the paper towel or cotton pad until all mascara residue is removed.

7. Mascara Melters

Mascara melters are specialty products designed to dissolve waterproof mascara formula on your brush. Simply follow the instructions provided on the product packaging, typically involving applying a small amount of melter to your brush and letting it sit for several seconds before rinsing.

In conclusion, keeping your mascara brush clean ensures smooth, clump-free application, and prolongs the life of your mascara. These seven methods are easy yet effective ways to maintain your brush’s hygiene, preventing any makeup mishaps or potential eye irritation. Choose whichever method suits you best and make cleaning your mascara wand a regular part of your makeup routine.
