If you are using Windows 10 and your USB device is not recognized, do not worry because there are several ways to solve this problem. This article will guide you on what to do when a USB device is not recognized in Windows 10.

1. Restart your computer

Sometimes, the simplest solution is the best one. Try unplugging the USB device and restarting your computer. This basic troubleshooting method can solve many problems, including a USB device that won’t recognize.

2. Check the USB port

Make sure you connect the USB device correctly to the port. You may have to use a different USB port, or try a different component since there might be a problem with the USB port.

3. Update your drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause your USB to stop working correctly. Go to your manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers for your USB device and install them on your PC.

4. Use Device Manager

Search for “Device Manager” in the search box on your taskbar, open it, and look for your USB device in the “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” category. Right-click on the USB device and choose “update driver.”

5. Run troubleshoot

Windows 10 has a built-in USB troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix USB problems automatically. Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional Troubleshooters > select USB > Run the troubleshooter.

6. Disable USB selective suspend

Sometimes Windows 10 can conserve power by putting USB devices to sleep, which can result in USB devices not working correctly. Disable this feature by going to Power & Sleep Settings > Additional Power Settings > Choose High-Performance Power Plan > Change Plan Settings > Change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Disable.

7. Scan for Malware

Run a virus scan to identify and remove malware that might be causing the USB device not to recognize.

In conclusion, USB devices not recognized in Windows 10 is a common problem, but it’s typically easy to solve. Try restarting your computer, checking the USB port, updating your drivers, using device manager, running troubleshoot, disabling USB selective suspend, and scanning for malware. If none of these tips work, you might have to contact support for further assistance.
