What Kinds of Hashtags Should You Be Using on Instagram?

Hashtags can be a game-changer when it comes to visibility and engagement on Instagram. But, not all hashtags are created equal. So what kinds of hashtags should you be using on Instagram?

  1. Branded Hashtags

A branded hashtag is unique to your business and helps you strengthen your brand identity and increase recognition. It can also spur user-generated content and create a sense of community around your brand. For example, Nike uses #justdoit, and GoPro uses #gopro.

  1. Niche-Specific Hashtags

Using hashtags specific to your niche can help connect with the right audience and grow your following. For example, if you’re a food blogger, you can include hashtags like #foodporn, #foodie, and #yumyum.

  1. Trending Hashtags

Keeping up with the latest trending hashtags is an excellent way to stay relevant and potentially reach new followers. However, make sure the hashtag is related to your content and adds value to your brand. For example, during the Black Lives Matter movement, using #blacklivesmatter showed support for the movement and helped spread awareness.

  1. Location-Based Hashtags

Using location-based hashtags can help with local discovery and reach a more targeted audience. It’s especially important if you have a brick-and-mortar business or offer local services. For example, if you own a coffee shop in New York, you can include hashtags like #coffeeinnyc or #coffeeonthego.

  1. Hashtags for Collaborations

If you’re working with other businesses or influencers, consider using collaboration hashtags. These hashtags indicate that the content is related to a specific partnership or campaign. For example, a fashion brand and a jewelry brand partnering together can use #fashionxjewelry.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
