What Is r/Place? How to Contribute to Reddit’s Art Experiment

r/Place is an online social experiment conducted by the popular website Reddit. It was launched on April 1, 2017, and continued for a total of 72 hours. During this period, users could place colored pixels on a 1000×1000 canvas.

The objective was to create a collaborative art project that reflected the creativity and diversity of the online community.

The canvas was initially blank and users had to work together to create a work of art. Each user could place a single pixel every five minutes, and they had to choose a color from a predefined palette. Reddit users had to coordinate their efforts and work as a team. The result was a stunning and mesmerizing creation that evolved over time as the community added more and more to the canvas.

The experiment quickly became one of the most popular threads on Reddit, with millions of users contributing to the canvas. The project brought together a diverse range of users, from artists to programmers, from casual users to power users. Over the course of three days, the community created a unique and vibrant piece of digital art.

To contribute to r/Place, users had to follow a few simple steps. Firstly, they had to sign up for a Reddit account if they didn’t already have one. Once logged in, they could navigate to the r/Place thread and view the canvas. Users could place a single pixel every five minutes by clicking on the canvas and selecting a color from the palette.

Users could also team up with other users to create larger designs. The most impressive works of art were those that involved dozens of users working together in real-time. This collaborative process was what made r/Place unique and special.
