What Is Background App Refresh on iPhone and Android?

Background App Refresh is a feature that is available on both iPhone and Android devices. It allows apps to update their content even when they are not in use or actively running on the device. This feature can be beneficial for users since it ensures that the apps remain up-to-date and ready to use at any time.

The Background App Refresh feature works by periodically checking for new data and updates from various apps. This process occurs when the device is idle, and the app is not active. The device must be connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network for the feature to work correctly.

It is essential to know that enabling Background App Refresh can have an impact on the device’s battery life since it consumes power to update the apps. However, both iPhone and Android devices have features to help users manage this issue.

For iPhone users, they can adjust the settings for Background App Refresh to control which apps have permission to refresh in the background. This can be done by going to the Settings app, selecting General, and then selecting Background App Refresh. From there, users can choose which apps they want to allow to refresh in the background or turn off the feature altogether.

Android users can also manage Background App Refresh settings. They can choose which apps can refresh in the background by heading to the Settings app, selecting Apps, then selecting the app they want to manage. From there, they can select Data usage, then select the option for Background data. Users can then turn off Background data for specific apps.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
