Hotkeys are a time-saving tool that helps you speed up your work on your computer. Also known as keyboard shortcuts, hotkeys consist of a combination of keys that perform a specific function or carry out a command. They help you save time by replacing repetitive actions that require you to use your mouse or trackpad.

Hotkeys are usually preset in most applications and programs, and all you need to do is memorize them. However, there may be times when you’d like to create your hotkey, whether you’re using an application that doesn’t have any, or you want to customize an existing one.

Here’s a simple guide on what hotkeys are and how you can create your hotkey.

What is a hotkey?

Hotkeys are keyboard shortcuts that allow you to perform a specific action or command by pressing a combination of keys. They typically involve a modifier key like Control, Alt, Shift, or the Windows key, along with one or more other keys.

Hotkeys can be used to perform a wide range of tasks quickly such as launching an application, opening a file, copying or pasting text, and many others. They can be used on any program or application that allows for keyboard shortcuts.

How to make your own hotkey

Creating your hotkey is a relatively simple task that requires only a few steps. Here’s how you can make your hotkey on a Windows computer:

Step 1: Choose the application or program that you want to set the hotkey for.

Step 2: Right-click on the application or program’s shortcut icon and choose Properties.

Step 3: In the Properties window, select the Shortcut tab.

Step 4: In the Shortcut tab, look for the Shortcut key field and click on it.

Step 5: Press the combination of keys that you want to use for your hotkey. Remember to combine it with at least one modifier key such as Ctrl, Alt or Shift.

Step 6: Click on “OK” to save your hotkey.

That’s it! You have now successfully made your hotkey. You can use this hotkey to quickly open the application or program that you have selected.

In conclusion, hotkeys are a great time-saving tool that can significantly improve your productivity. They are easy to create and customize, and you can use them across a variety of programs and applications on your computer. By applying the simple steps outlined above, you can make and customize your hotkey in no time.
