Forgetting your Windows administrator password can be a frustrating experience. Not being able to log in to your computer can disrupt your work and cause unnecessary stress. Fortunately, there are several ways to reset a forgotten Windows administrator password that can help you regain access to your computer.

1. Use a password reset disk

A password reset disk can be created before you forget the password. If you have created one, you can use it to reset your password. To use a password reset disk, insert it into your computer and restart your computer. When you reach the login screen, click “reset password” and follow the instructions. This option only works if you have previously created a password reset disk.

2. Use another administrator account

If there is another administrator account on your computer, you can use it to reset your forgotten password. Log in to that account and go to Control Panel > User Accounts >Manage another account. Select the account whose password you have forgotten and click on “reset password.” Follow the instructions to reset your password.

3. Use Safe Mode

If you have never created a password reset disk, you can still reset your administrator password by entering Safe Mode. To enter Safe Mode, restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options screen. In this screen, select “Safe Mode with Command Prompt” and press Enter. Once you are in Safe Mode, type “net user [username] [*]” in the command prompt and press Enter. Replace [username] with the name of the account you want to reset the password for. You will then be prompted to enter a new password for the account.

4. Use a third-party password recovery tool

If none of the above methods work, you can use a third-party password recovery tool. These tools work by creating a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD that you can use to reset your administrator password. There are many third-party password recovery tools available online, including Ophcrack, Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, and PCUnlocker.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
