Track these 4 emerging storage technologies

The world of data storage is constantly evolving, and staying on top of emerging technologies can be overwhelming. However, there are four technologies in particular that are worth keeping an eye on as they continue to develop and change the game for data storage.

1. Object storage

Object storage is a type of storage architecture that stores data as files, rather than blocks. This means that data can be accessed as discrete chunks, rather than as a whole file, making it easier to manage large amounts of data. Object storage is especially useful for unstructured data, such as media files or documents, and is becoming increasingly popular in cloud-based storage solutions.

2. Non-volatile memory

Non-volatile memory (NVM) is a type of storage that does not lose data when power is turned off. This differs from traditional volatile memory, such as RAM, which loses data when the power is turned off. NVM is faster than traditional storage solutions and is expected to replace traditional hard drives in the near future.

3. Storage-class memory

Storage-class memory (SCM) is another type of NVM that is designed to sit between RAM and traditional storage solutions, such as hard drives or solid-state drives (SSDs). SCM is faster than traditional storage and can be used to cache frequently accessed data, improving performance for applications that require fast access to data.

4. Cloud storage

Cloud storage is not new, but it continues to evolve and improve as cloud providers invest in infrastructure and technology. Cloud storage offers numerous benefits, including scalability, easy access from anywhere, and often lower costs than traditional storage solutions. Cloud storage also offers the ability to easily share data and collaborate with others, making it a popular choice for businesses and individuals alike.

As these technologies continue to evolve, it’s important to stay informed and understand how they can benefit your organization. Object storage, NVM, SCM, and cloud storage are just a few of the emerging technologies that are changing the game for data storage, and there are sure to be more to come. Keeping track of these developments will ensure that you stay ahead of the curve and make informed decisions about your storage needs

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
