Pumpkin Carving Masters Share How To Carve Your Best Jack O’Lantern Ever!

As Halloween approaches, the art of pumpkin carving takes center stage. To help you create the most impressive jack o’lantern on your block, we’ve gathered tips from pumpkin carving masters. Here’s how to elevate your carving game:

  1. Choose the Right Pumpkin: Look for a pumpkin with a flat bottom, smooth surface, and no soft spots.
  2. Prep Your Workspace: Lay down newspapers and gather your tools – sharp knives, scooping tools, and stencils if desired.
  3. Cut Smart: Instead of cutting the top, consider cutting a hole in the bottom. This preserves the pumpkin’s structural integrity and makes candle placement easier.
  4. Scoop Thoroughly: Remove all seeds and strings. Thin the inner walls where you’ll carve for easier cutting.
  5. Plan Your Design: Sketch your design on paper first, then transfer it to the pumpkin using a marker or push pins.
  6. Carve with Care: Start from the center and work your way out. Use gentle sawing motions rather than forcing the knife.
  7. Add Depth: Create a 3D effect by carving at different depths – don’t just cut all the way through.
  8. Preserve Your Masterpiece: Spray the cut edges with lemon juice to slow decay, and keep it cool when not on display.

Remember, practice makes perfect. Don’t be afraid to start with simpler designs and work your way up to more complex ones. Happy carving!

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
