Setting up an Xbox One controller in Ubuntu is a great way to enjoy gaming on your computer. However, the process can be a bit tricky, especially for those who are new to Ubuntu. In this article, we will show you how to set up an Xbox One controller in Ubuntu step by step.

Step 1: Install Required Packages

The first step in setting up your Xbox One controller in Ubuntu is to install the required packages. These packages include “xboxdrv” and “joystick”. To install these packages, open a terminal window and type the following command:

sudo apt-get install xboxdrv joystick

This will download and install the necessary packages on your system.

Step 2: Connect Your Xbox One Controller

Next, you will need to connect your Xbox One controller to your computer. You can do this using a wired or wireless connection.

If you are using a wired connection, simply plug the controller into your computer’s USB port.

If you are using a wireless connection, you will need to pair your controller with your computer. To do this, press and hold the Xbox button on your controller until it begins to flash. Then, open the Bluetooth settings on your computer and look for the Xbox One controller. Click on it to connect.

Step 3: Configure Your Controller

Once your controller is connected, you will need to configure it in Ubuntu. Open a terminal window and type the following command:

sudo xboxdrv –config

This will open the Xboxdrv configuration tool. Here, you can configure your controller’s buttons and sensitivity.

Step 4: Test Your Controller

Finally, you will need to test your controller to ensure that it is working properly. Open a terminal window and type the following command:

jstest /dev/input/js0

This will open a test program that allows you to see the input from your controller. Move your joysticks and press your buttons to ensure that they are working properly.

Conclusion

Setting up an Xbox One controller in Ubuntu may seem daunting at first, but it is actually quite simple if you follow these steps. By installing the required packages, connecting your controller, configuring it, and testing it, you can enjoy gaming on your computer without any issues.
