How to Remove Spaces in Excel
Microsoft Excel is commonly used for organizing data and performing calculations. There are times, though, when data may have unwanted spaces between words or numbers, hindering the ease of sorting and analysis. Removing these spaces, fortunately, is a simple process in Excel. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Identify the data you want to modify
Before removing spaces in Excel, it’s important to identify the data that needs cleaning. You may prefer to have one worksheet dedicated to data cleaning, or you might want to create a copy of the original worksheet to make changes to. Once you’ve identified the data, you can begin formatting it.
Step 2: Start formatting
Highlight the cells that need to have spaces removed. Next, navigate to the Home tab and select Find & Select from the Editing section. From the drop-down menu, select Replace. You can also use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + H” to initiate this function.
Step 3: Remove unwanted spaces
In the Find and Replace window, there are two fields – Find what and Replace with. In the first field, input a single space, character, or word that appears between data. In the second field, leave it blank. Once this is done, click on Replace All.
Step 4: Check the changes
Confirm that the formatting has the intended result. Observe the cells that had spaces previously and ensure there are no longer any present.
