Muraqabah is a form of meditation in Islamic tradition, focusing on self-observation and contemplation. It aims to connect practitioners with their inner selves and to strengthen the relationship between the individual and Allah (God) by promoting spiritual growth and mindfulness. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to perform Muraqabah:

1. Find a quiet space: Choose a clean, peaceful environment where you can free your mind from distractions. This may be in your home, outside in nature, or at a mosque.

2. Sit comfortably: Find a sitting position that is comfortable for you, enabling you to maintain posture and breathe easily. You may choose to sit on a cushion on the floor, cross-legged or in any other position that suits you.

3. Set an intention: Before beginning your practice, identify your purpose for performing Muraqabah. This could be seeking spiritual growth, inner peace, or connection with Allah.

4. Close your eyes and focus: Gently close your eyes to help eliminate visual distractions. Focus your thoughts on Allah and keep your attention centered on maintaining this connection throughout the meditation session.

5. Breathe deeply: Inhale slowly through your nose, allowing your chest and abdomen to expand as you fill your lungs with air. Then exhale completely through your mouth, releasing any tension in your body or mind.

6. Recite silently or mentally: Choose phrases or verses from the Quran that resonate with you spiritually or align with your intention for the practice. Silently recite these words within yourself while maintaining focus on Allah.

7. Observe your thoughts: As you meditate, be aware of any thoughts that arise but do not engage or judge them – just let them pass like clouds in the sky. Each time a thought emerges, gently bring yourself back to the recitation and your focus on Allah.

8. Conclude your practice: When you feel ready to end the Muraqabah session, bring awareness back to the present moment and your physical surroundings. Slowly open your eyes and take a few deep breaths, feeling grateful for the time spent in contemplation.

Performing Muraqabah consistently can lead to increased spiritual awareness and a deeper connection with Allah. By practicing mindfulness and self-observation, you can nurture your emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being while gaining insight into your true self and purpose in life.
