Command Prompt is a utility tool in Windows that allows you to perform various tasks such as executing specific commands or running scripts. In Windows 11, the operating system has undergone some significant changes, including its interface design. However, opening Command Prompt remains a crucial element of managing your computer’s operations. In this article, we’ll go through the different ways you can open the Command Prompt in Windows 11.

Method 1: Using the Run dialogue box

The Run dialogue box is a quick and easy way to open the Command Prompt. You can follow the steps below to launch the Run dialogue box:

Step 1: Press the Windows logo key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialogue box.

Step 2: Once the Run dialogue box is open, type “cmd” or “cmd.exe” in the box and click on the OK button. This will launch the Command Prompt.

Method 2: Using the Start Menu

The Start Menu in Windows 11 has a new design, but it still serves the same purpose. Here’s how to open Command Prompt using the Start menu:

Step 1: Click on the Start Menu located at the bottom-left corner of your screen.

Step 2: Search for “cmd” or “Command Prompt” in the search bar.

Step 3: Once the Command Prompt appears in the search results, click on it to open.

Method 3: Using the File Explorer

You can also open the Command Prompt directly from the File Explorer. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open the File Explorer by pressing Windows key + E on your keyboard or by clicking on the folder icon located on the taskbar.

Step 2: Once the File Explorer is open, navigate to the folder where you want to open the Command Prompt.

Step 3: Click on the “File” menu located at the top-left corner of the File Explorer window.

Step 4: In the drop-down menu, click on “Open Windows PowerShell” or “Open Command Prompt.”

Note: These options may not appear immediately; you may need to hold down the Shift key and right-click on the folder to access them.

Method 4: Using the Task Manager

If you’re having trouble opening the Command Prompt using the above methods, you can also use the Task Manager. Here’s how:

Step 1: Right-click on the Windows taskbar and select “Task Manager” from the options listed.

Step 2: In the Task Manager window, select “File” from the top menu.

Step 3: In the drop-down menu, click on “Run new task.”

Step 4: In the “Create new task” window, type “cmd” or “cmd.exe” in the Open box and click the OK button.

Conclusion

Opening the Command Prompt in Windows 11 is just as easy as it was in previous versions of Windows. You can use any of the four methods listed above to launch the Command Prompt. Remember, the Command Prompt is a powerful tool, so use it carefully to avoid making any unnecessary changes to your Windows settings.
