How to Make Paper Dividers: 7 Steps
Organizing your files, notebooks, and binders can be a challenge without the right tools. Paper dividers are a simple and cost-effective solution to categorize your documents. Follow these seven steps to create your custom paper dividers from scratch.
1. Gather necessary materials:
To make paper dividers, you’ll need the following items:
– Colored or plain paper (preferably cardstock)
– Binder or notebook (for measuring purposes)
– Pencil or pen
– Scissors
– Ruler
– Hole punch (if applicable)
2. Choose the size of your dividers:
Measure the height and width of the binder or notebook you plan on using the dividers for. Add about half an inch to the width for the tabs.
3. Measure, mark and cut:
Using a ruler, measure and mark the dimensions of your divider on the selected paper with a pencil or pen. Cut along these lines carefully ensuring that edges are straight and neat.
4. Create tabs for labeling categories:
Decide how many sections you want to divide your binder into and measure equal spaces for these tabs along one side of the divider. Draw rectangles extending about half an inch from the side with these measurements in mind, ensuring each tab is large enough to write on.
5. Cut out tabs:
Carefully cut along the lines you drew for tabs, leaving them attached to the main divider body. Be sure not to accidentally cut off any of your tabs during this process.
6. Label tabs:
Use a pen or pencil to label each tab with its corresponding category, such as “English” or “Math.” Alternatively, you could use a label maker or adhesive labels for a more professional look.
7. Punch holes (if applicable):
If you’re using a binder with rings, use a hole punch to create holes that align with those in your binder. Make sure to evenly space the holes and verify their placement before punching through.
Now that you’ve created your custom paper dividers, you can assemble them in your binder or notebook and start organizing your documents. Not only will this help declutter your workspace, but it will also make finding important notes and papers a breeze.
