The Manhattan cocktail is a classic and sophisticated concoction, perfect for sipping at a dinner party or enjoying after work. This impressive drink originated in the late 1800s and has stood the test of time, remaining a favorite among connoisseurs. It’s surprisingly easy to make at home, following these 13 simple steps.

1. Gather your ingredients:

– 2 ounces of whiskey (rye or bourbon)

– 1 ounce of sweet vermouth

– 2 dashes of Angostura bitters

– A Maraschino cherry for garnish

2. Have your tools ready:

– A mixing glass

– A bar spoon

– A jigger (or a measuring cup)

– A cocktail strainer

– A chilled cocktail glass

3. Place your mixing glass on a level surface.

4. Using the jigger or measuring cup, measure out your 2 ounces of whiskey and pour it into the mixing glass.

5. Measure out the 1 ounce of sweet vermouth and add it to the glass.

6. Add two dashes of Angostura bitters directly into the mixture.

7. Fill your mixing glass about halfway with ice cubes.

8. Use your bar spoon to gently stir the ingredients together, letting them mix and chill for about 20-30 seconds.

9. Hold the cocktail strainer over your chilled cocktail glass, ensuring it covers the opening of the mixing glass.

10. Slowly pour the mixture through the strainer and into the cocktail glass, keeping all loose ice particles out.

11. Use a bar spoon or a cocktail pick to spear a Maraschino cherry, being careful not to pierce through its entirety.

12. Gently drop the cherry into your Manhattan as a garnish.

13. Take in the beauty of this timeless cocktail before savoring its rich, bold flavor through slow sips.

Now that you know how to make a Manhattan in 13 easy steps, you’re well on your way to impressing your friends and family with your bartending skills. Cheers!
