Travelling, whether for personal or for business reasons, can be exciting and rewarding. However, one of the biggest frustrations that people who travel experience is the lack of high-speed Internet access in hotels. Most hotels nowadays offer wireless Internet access; however, not all of them are free, and sometimes the free service is so weak that you may feel like you are back in the Stone Ages. If you want to avoid that frustration, here are some tips on how to get wireless Internet access in a hotel.

Check if the hotel offers free Wi-Fi

First and foremost, check if the hotel offers free Wi-Fi. Most hotels nowadays offer free Wi-Fi access to their guests, but some hotels still charge a fee for using their Wi-Fi service. You can usually find this information on the hotel’s website or by calling the hotel directly.

Bring your own Wi-Fi router

One of the easiest ways to get wireless Internet access in a hotel is to bring your own Wi-Fi router. This will allow you to create your own Wi-Fi network in your hotel room, which you can then connect to with your laptop or mobile device. Most routers are easy to set up and are relatively inexpensive.

Use a portable hotspot

Another way to get wireless Internet access in a hotel is to use a portable hotspot. Portable hotspots use a cellular network to provide you with Internet access. You can either buy a portable hotspot or rent one from a company like Verizon or AT&T. If you plan on using a portable hotspot, make sure to check the coverage area and the data plan to ensure that you don’t go over your limit.

Utilize your smartphone’s hotspot feature

Most smartphones nowadays have a Wi-Fi hotspot feature that allows you to share your phone’s Internet connection with other devices. If you have a smartphone and a data plan, you can use this feature to get wireless Internet access in a hotel.

Use a VPN

If you are concerned about the security of the hotel’s Wi-Fi network, you can use a VPN (Virtual Private Network). A VPN will encrypt your Internet traffic and protect your information from prying eyes.
In conclusion, getting wireless Internet access in a hotel is not always easy, but with some preparation and the right tools, it is possible. Make sure to check if the hotel offers free Wi-Fi, bring your own Wi-Fi router or use a portable hotspot, utilize your smartphone’s hotspot feature, and use a VPN if you need extra security. With these tips, you can stay connected even when you are away from home.
