If you are encountering a “winhttp.dll not found” or “winhttp.dll missing” error message on your Windows computer, you may be wondering how to fix it. Winhttp.dll is a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file that is used by Windows to provide HTTP protocol support to applications and services.

When this file is missing or not found, it can cause various issues such as slow performance, system crashes, and software failures. In this article, we will discuss some methods to fix winhttp.dll not found or missing errors.

Method 1: Restore the Winhttp.dll File

The first and easiest method to fix winhttp.dll not found or missing errors is to restore the DLL file from a backup. Windows creates automatic backups of important system files, including DLL files, which can be used to restore them.

To restore the winhttp.dll file, follow these steps:

1. Open the Start menu and type “cmd” in the search box.

2. Right-click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator.”

3. Type “sfc /scannow” and press Enter.

4. Wait for the scan to complete.

5. If any errors are found, the system will automatically restore the missing or corrupted files, including the winhttp.dll file.

Method 2: Update Windows

Another method to fix winhttp.dll not found or missing errors is to update Windows to the latest version. Windows updates often include fixes for DLL files and other system files.

To update Windows, follow these steps:

1. Open the Start menu and click on “Settings.”

2. Click on “Update & Security.”

3. Click on “Check for updates.”

4. Windows will automatically check for updates and install them if available.

5. Restart your computer after the updates are installed.

Method 3: Reinstall the Application

If the winhttp.dll file is missing or not found error is caused by a specific application, you may need to reinstall the application.

To reinstall the application, follow these steps:

1. Open the Start menu and click on “Control Panel.”

2. Click on “Programs and Features.”

3. Find the application that is causing the error and select it.

4. Click on “Uninstall.”

5. Restart your computer.

6. Reinstall the application from the original installation media or download it from the manufacturer’s website.

Method 4: Run a System Restore

If none of the above methods work, you can try running a system restore to a previous point in time when the winhttp.dll file was working correctly.

To run a system restore, follow these steps:

1. Open the Start menu and type “system restore” in the search box.

2. Click on “Create a restore point.”

3. Click on “System Restore.”

4. Follow the prompts to select a restore point and start the restore process.

5. Wait for the system restore to complete and restart your computer.

In conclusion, the winhttp.dll not found or missing error can be frustrating, but it can be fixed with a few simple methods. If you are still encountering issues after trying these methods, you may need to seek help from a professional technician or contact the software manufacturer for further assistance.
