Google Chrome is an essential application for people who browse the internet frequently. It allows users to access helpful extensions and apps that can simplify various tasks online. However, some users have reported experiencing a black screen issue with the application. This article will discuss how to fix the Google Chrome black screen issue.

Before diving into the solutions, it’s essential to understand that there are various causes of this problem. One of the reasons could be an outdated version of the application or malware. It could also be due to an extension or a hardware issue.

Here are some solutions that can help fix the black screen issue on Google Chrome;

1. Clear Browser Cache and Data

Clearing browser cache and data can help fix the Google Chrome black screen issue. It removes the clutter and frees up some space on your computer. To do this, follow these steps:

– Click on the three dots on the top right-hand side and go to settings.
– Scroll down and click on the Advance tab.
– In the Privacy and Security tab, click on Clear browsing data.
– Choose the time range you want to clear from the drop-down menu.
– Check the boxes next to browsing history, cookies and other site data, and cached images and files.
– Click on Clear data.

2. Disable Hardware Acceleration

Hardware acceleration is a feature in Google Chrome that allows hardware components to perform some of the tasks that the CPU would handle. Disabling the feature can help fix the black screen issue. To disable the hardware acceleration feature, follow these steps:

– Click on the three dots on the top right-hand side and go to settings.
– Scroll down and choose the Advance tab.
– Under the system section, click on Use hardware acceleration when available to disable the feature.
– Restart Google Chrome and check if the black screen issue is resolved.

3. Disable Extensions

Some extensions may not be compatible with the Google Chrome version you are using, causing the black screen issue. Disabling or removing them can help fix the problem. To disable or remove extensions, follow these steps:

– Click on the three dots on the top right-hand side and go to settings.
– Click on the Extension option on the left-hand side.
– Disable or remove every extension that might be causing the black screen issue.
– Restart your browser and check if the problem is resolved.

4. Update Google Chrome

Outdated versions of Google Chrome can cause the black screen issue. Updating the application to the latest version can help fix the problem. To update Google Chrome, follow these steps:

– Click on the three dots on the top right-hand side and go to settings.
– Scroll down and click on the Help option.
– Click on About Google Chrome.
– The application will check for updates, and you can install the latest version from here.

Conclusion

The Google Chrome black screen issue is a common problem that can be fixed using the solutions above. Clearing cache and data, disabling hardware acceleration, removing incompatible extensions, and updating the application are some of the solutions that can help solve this issue. If the issue persists, it could be a hardware problem, and you should seek technical assistance.
