How to Draw a Starfish: 6 Steps

Step 1: Gather your materials

Before you begin, gather your drawing materials. You will need a pencil, an eraser, paper, and coloring tools like colored pencils or markers.

Step 2: Draw a small circle

Start by drawing a small circle in the center of your paper. This will be the body of the starfish.

Step 3: Add the arms

Next, draw five curved lines extending out from the central circle. These lines should be spaced evenly around the circle and will form the arms of the starfish. Try to make each arm relatively equal in length and width.

Step 4: Refine the arms

Now that you have the basic shape of your starfish, it’s time to refine the arms. Give each arm a slightly tapered appearance by adding a convex curve to their inner edges and a concave curve to their outer edges. This will help create the illusion of thickness and add depth to your drawing.

Step 5: Add texture

To give your starfish some realistic texture, draw small dots or circles along both sides of each arm. These dots represent the small tube-like feet that starfish use to move around on and should be relatively evenly spaced along each arm.

Step 6: Color your starfish

Finally, use colored pencils or markers to color in your starfish drawing. Most starfish have a vibrant color scheme, such as bright orange or red with white spots or stripes, so choose colors that appeal to you.

Congratulations! You’ve just drawn a beautiful starfish in six easy steps! Keep practicing and experimenting with different colors and shapes to create various types of starfish illustrations.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
