If you’re experiencing issues with your Mac, such as malfunctioning hardware or software, strange behavior, crashing, or slow performance, a reset of the System Management Controller (SMC) and Parameter RAM (PRAM) or Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) might help.

Here’s how to do an SMC and PRAM/NVRAM reset on your Mac:

SMC Reset:

The System Management Controller (SMC) is responsible for controlling power management functions on your Mac, including the power button, battery, fans, and other hardware-related functions. If you’re experiencing issues with these functions, an SMC reset might help.

Here’s how to do an SMC reset:

1. Shut down your Mac completely.

2. Unplug the power cord and any other accessories connected to your Mac.

3. Wait for 15 seconds.

4. Reconnect the power cord and other accessories back to your Mac.

5. Turn on your Mac.

PRAM/NVRAM Reset:

Parameter RAM (PRAM) or Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) is responsible for storing certain settings for your Mac, such as the time zone, volume, startup disk selection, and others. If you’re experiencing issues with these settings, resetting PRAM/NVRAM might help.

Here’s how to do a PRAM/NVRAM reset:

1. Shut down your Mac completely.

2. Press the power button and then quickly press and hold the Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + P + R keys together.

3. Keep holding the keys until you hear the startup chime for the second time or until the Apple logo appears and disappears twice.

4. Release the keys and let your Mac restart.

After resetting SMC and PRAM/NVRAM, you might need to adjust certain settings or configurations, such as your network settings, display settings, sound preferences, and others. Be sure to check these settings to make sure they are set up correctly.
