If you are trying to copy text from a video on a Mac, then you may find it a bit challenging, especially if the text is embedded in a video. However, with the right tools, it is possible to extract the text and use it for various purposes. In this article, we will explore different ways to help you copy text from videos on a Mac.

Method 1: Transcription Software

Transcription software is used to convert speech to text, making it an excellent tool for extracting text from a video. Luckily, there are several transcription software options available on a Mac system that can help you get the job done.

One of the most popular transcription software options is the Express Scribe Transcription software. It is free, easy to use, and compatible with different types of video files. Simply open the video file on Express Scribe and start the transcription process. You can then copy the text and use it for different purposes.

With Express Scribe, you can also use hotkeys to jump back and forth within the video, making your work easier.

Method 2: Use Video Editing Software

Another way to extract text from a video is by using video editing software. This process works best if the text is displayed for an extended period in the video. You can then use a video editing tool like iMovie or Final Cut Pro to export the video as a text file.

To extract the text using iMovie, import the video into the software, select the ‘Clip Information’ option, and choose the ‘Transcription’ tab. This process can take a bit of time depending on the video’s length, but once it is done, you will have a text file that you can copy and use for various purposes.

Method 3: Use a Third-party App

The final option for copying text from videos on a Mac is by using a third-party app like Subler. Subler is a free, open-source app that enables you to extract metadata, including text, from video files.

To get started with Subler, open the app, drag the video file into the app’s window, and then select the ‘Metadata’ tab. Here, you can extract text from the video and also make any changes you need before exporting the text file.
