Introduction

Window tracks often go overlooked during regular cleaning routines, but they can collect dirt, dust, and grime over time. Learning how to clean window tracks can help improve the appearance of your windows and extend their lifespan. Follow these 13 simple steps to clean your window tracks effectively and efficiently.

1.Gather necessary supplies

Before starting, gather the necessary supplies, including:

– A vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment

– A microfiber cloth or soft brush

– Mild dish soap

– Warm water

– A small bucket or container

– An old toothbrush or small cleaning brush

– Cotton swabs or pipe cleaners (optional)

– Paper towels or rags

2.Remove any curtains and blinds

Remove curtains, blinds, or other window treatments to access the window tracks without obstructions.

3.Vacuum the tracks

Begin by vacuuming the window tracks using a hose attachment to remove loose dirt, dust and debris.

4.Create a soapy solution

Mix mild dish soap and warm water in a small bucket or container to create a soapy solution for cleaning.

5.Apply soap to the track

Dip a microfiber cloth or soft brush into the soapy solution, then apply it to the window track. Avoid using too much water as this can seep into the wall surrounding the window.

6.Scrub with a toothbrush

Using an old toothbrush or small cleaning brush, scrub the window track vigorously to loosen dirt and grime from corners and crevices.

7.Sweep away debris

Sweep away loosened dirt by using a cloth or paper towel around your finger tip.

8.Access hard-to-reach areas (optional)

Use cotton swabs or pipe cleaners dipped in soapy water to access hard-to-reach areas of the window track.

9.Rinse with clean water

Dampen a cloth or paper towel with clean water and gently wipe the window tracks to remove any remaining soap residue.

10.Dry tracks

Use paper towels or clean rags to thoroughly dry the window tracks, ensuring no moisture remains.

11.Check for rust or discoloration

Inspect the window tracks for rust or discoloration. If present, treat the area with a small amount of oil, such as WD-40.

12.Clean surrounding surfaces

While you have your supplies out, take the opportunity to clean the surrounding window surfaces, including the glass panes.

13.Replace curtains and blinds

Once your window tracks are squeaky clean, replace any removed curtains and blinds.

Conclusion

By following these 13 easy steps, you can keep your window tracks free from dirt and grime, improving both their performance and appearance. Make it a part of your regular cleaning routine to ensure your windows continue looking their best.
