How to Choose a Slack Theme (or Make Your Own)

Slack is a collaboration app that has revolutionized team communication in the workplace. It provides a platform for teams to chat, share files, and collaborate on tasks in real-time. One of the features that makes Slack so popular is the ability to customize the look and feel of the app using themes. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to choose a Slack theme or make your own.

Why Choose a Slack Theme?

Customizing your Slack theme is a great way to add your own personal touch to the app. Themes can also improve the aesthetic appeal of the app and make it more enjoyable to use. Additionally, using a theme can help your team to easily identify the different Slack channels and messages. This can be helpful when working in a larger team or with multiple projects.

How to Choose a Slack Theme

Slack offers many pre-made themes that you can choose from. To select a theme, click on your profile picture in the top left corner of the app and select ‘Preferences’. From there, click on ‘Themes’ to see the options available.

Slack provides several categories of themes, including ‘Classic’, ‘Colorful’, ‘Cool’, ‘Dark’, and ‘Gradient’. Each category includes a variety of pre-made themes that you can choose from. Once you have selected a theme, your Slack app will update automatically, and you can start enjoying your new look.

Making Your Own Slack Theme

If you’re looking for a more personalized theme, you can create your own custom theme in Slack. To create a custom theme, click on your profile picture and select ‘Preferences’, then select ‘Themes’ and click on ‘Create a Custom Theme’.

From there, you can choose your own colors for the various elements of the Slack app, including the background, sidebar, messages, and accents. Slack provides a color picker tool to help you choose the colors you want. Once you have selected your colors, give your theme a name and click ‘Create’.

Once you have created your custom theme, it will appear in the ‘Themes’ section of your Slack preferences. You can use it and update it as often as you like.

Tips for Choosing a Slack Theme

When selecting a Slack theme, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Consider the lighting in your workspace – If you work in low-light conditions, a light-colored theme may be easier on the eyes.

2. Consider the preferences of your team – You may want to get input from your team before selecting a theme to ensure everyone is comfortable with the new look.

3. Choose a theme that reflects your brand – If you’re using Slack for business purposes, it can be helpful to select a theme that reflects your brand’s colors and visual identity.

Conclusion

Customizing your Slack theme is a great way to personalize the app and make it more enjoyable to use. With pre-made themes and the ability to create your own custom theme, Slack provides a variety of options to choose from. By considering your workspace, team preferences, and brand identity, you can select a theme that is both visually appealing and functional.
