Changing the name of your Amazon Echo device’s voice assistant, Alexa, can be a fun way to give your smart home setup a more personalized touch. In this article, we’ll walk you through the simple process of changing Alexa’s name in just seven easy-to-follow steps.

Step 1: Open the Alexa App

To get started, open the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet. If you don’t have it installed, you can download it for free from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

Step 2: Access the Settings Menu

Once you’ve opened the app, locate the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of your screen. Tap this icon to open a menu where you’ll find various options. In this menu, select “Settings.”

Step 3: Choose Your Echo Device

Your app will now display a list of Amazon Echo devices connected to your account. Tap on the specific device you’d like to change Alexa’s name for.

Step 4: Locate “Wake Word”

Inside the chosen device settings, scroll down until you find an option named “Wake Word.” This is essentially what you call out to activate your Amazon Echo device.

Step 5: Select Your New Wake Word

Upon selecting “Wake Word,” a new screen will appear with multiple choices for a new wake word. Unfortunately, Amazon presently only supports four options: “Alexa,” “Echo,” “Amazon,” and “Computer.”

(Note: Customizable wake words may be introduced in future software updates.)

Step 6: Confirm Your Choice

Simply tap on the wake word of choice, and a confirmation message will appear notifying you that the change is underway. Keep in mind that it might take a few minutes for your device to update.

Step 7: Test Your New Wake Word

After updating successfully, test your new wake word to ensure your Amazon Echo device responds accordingly. If your device isn’t responding as desired, return to the wake word settings and reconfirm your selection.

That’s it! You’ve successfully changed Alexa’s name for your Amazon Echo device. Now you can enjoy a more personalized experience with your voice assistant.
