How to Block Caller ID

Introduction

Blocking caller ID is the process of preventing your phone number from appearing on the recipient’s phone when you place a call. It is a useful feature when you want to ensure privacy, but it can also be misused for malicious purposes. This article will serve as a comprehensive guide on how to block caller ID when making calls and tips on using this feature responsibly.

Step 1: Know when to use blocked caller IDs

Using a blocked caller ID is essential when you need to protect your privacy, especially in these cases:

-Calling an unknown number or service.

-Placing personal calls while at work to prevent unwanted callbacks during business hours.

-Making calls from a public phone or when using someone else’s phone.

However, be aware that some individuals refuse to answer calls with blocked caller IDs due to potential spam or telemarketing.

Step 2: Use the temporary blocking code

To temporarily block your caller ID, you can use specific codes before dialing the number. The most widely used code is *67 (North America) or #31# (many other countries). Dial this code followed by the recipient’s phone number to make your call, and your number will not be shown during that particular call.

Example: *67 555-123-4567

Step 3: Permanent blocking via carrier settings

If you would rather permanently block your caller ID, contact your phone carrier and request it as a feature. Many carriers allow users to enable permanent caller ID blocking through their online accounts or via customer support. Note that some carriers charge an additional fee for this service.

Step 4: Blocking caller ID using smartphone settings

On smartphones like Android and iPhones, you can adjust the settings to block your caller ID:

For Android:

1. Open the Phone app

2. Tap on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner

3. Select “Settings”

4. Look for “Caller ID” or “Additional settings”

5. Select “Hide number”

For iPhone:

1. Open the Settings app

2. Scroll down and tap on “Phone”

3. Tap on “Show My Caller ID”

4. Toggle off the switch

These settings will block your caller ID, making your calls appear as “private” or “unknown” to the recipient.

Conclusion

Blocking your caller ID can be a helpful tool to protect your privacy when making calls; however, remember that some recipients may be wary of answering calls from blocked numbers due to potential spam or telemarketing. Use this feature responsibly and always respect other people’s privacy as well.
