How to Block Ads in Safari on the iPhone

As an iPhone user, you may get annoyed with advertisements that take up the screen space or interrupt your browsing experience. Fortunately, Safari, the default browser on iPhone, has an option to block ads. Here’s how to block ads in Safari on iPhone.

1. Download a content blocker app

To block advertisements in Safari, you’ll need a content blocker app. Some of the popular ad-blocking apps are AdGuard, 1Blocker, and AdBlock. Go to the App Store, search for the ad blocker app you prefer or choose one of the three mentioned above, then download and install it.

2. Enable the content blocker in Safari

Once your content blocker app is installed, you can enable it in Safari. Here are the steps to enable content blockers on Safari:

1. Go to Settings > Safari.

2. Scroll down to the General section and tap on Content Blockers.

3. Next, toggle on the switch next to the ad-blocking app you just installed.

4. Go back to Safari and refresh the page; ad-blocking is now enabled.

3. Adjust ad-blocker settings

Most ad-blocking apps allow you to customize the experience. You can adjust the settings to allow ads on specific sites or remove some specific ads. For example, if you’re using AdGuard, go to the app and swipe down to access the control panel. From there, you can make changes to the settings.

Note: iOS devices have a limited amount of RAM, so having too many ad-blocking apps may slow down your device and cause a delay in Safari’s browsing speed.

4. Whitelist certain websites

Some websites depend on advertisements to stay in business. Therefore, they may not allow access until you disable your ad blocker for their site. If you want to support these sites, you can whitelist them. To whitelist a website, follow these steps:

1. Open Safari and visit the website you want to support.

2. Tap on the aA icon at the top left corner of the address bar.

3. Select “Website Settings.”

4. Disable your content blockers for that specific site.

5. Confirm the blocked content is ads

Ad-blockers filter content based on the software’s built-in algorithms. Sometimes, certain graphics or multimedia content may be affected, even if it’s not an advertisement. After enabling your content blocker, it’s best to confirm that it’s working as intended.

Conclusion

In summary, ads can be a nuisance while browsing the web. However, with content blocker apps, you can personalize your browsing experience and reduce irritating pop-ups and interruptions. Follow these steps and opt to block ads when browsing the web on your iPhone.
