The internet is a vast source of information, but it also contains countless websites that can be a distraction or promote unhealthy behavior. For instance, social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram can quickly steal hours of productivity from you.

Fortunately, blocking a website on a Mac is a straightforward process that you can accomplish through your web browser. Whether you use Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, the steps are primarily the same, and you only need to follow these simple instructions.

Method One: Block a Website in Safari

Safari is the default web browser on a Mac, and as such, it is more integrated with the operating system. Hence, using it to block a website is relatively easy.

1. Launch Safari and open Preferences.

2. Click on the “Websites” tab and select “Parental Controls.”

3. Click on “Enable Parental Controls” and then click on “Customize.”

4. Choose the user account that you want to limit using the dropdown list.

5. Click on the “add websites” button below the “Never allow these websites” section.

6. Type the URL of the website you want to block in the popup box, then click “OK.”

7. You can add as many websites as you want to the “Never allow these websites” section.

8. Once you’re done, close the Preferences window to save the changes.

Method Two: Block a Website in Chrome

Chrome is Google’s web browser and is one of the most popular browsers in the world. Here are the steps you can follow to block websites on Chrome:

1. Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the window.

2. Choose “Settings” from the dropdown list.

3. Scroll down and select “Advanced” in the left menu. Then click on “Site Settings.”

4. Under “Permissions,” click “Add” next to the “Block” section.

5. Type in the website’s URL you want to block and click “Add.”

6. Repeat this process until you have added all the websites you want to block.

Method Three: Block a Website in Firefox

Firefox is another popular web browser that you can use to block websites on your Mac. Here is how:

1. Open Firefox and click on the hamburger menu on the upper right corner.

2. Choose “Options” from the dropdown list.

3. Under “Privacy & Security,” scroll down to the “Site permissions” section.

4. Click on the “Settings” button to the right of “Block websites from automatically playing sound.”

5. Enter the website URL that you want to block and click “Save changes.”

6. Repeat the process to block more websites.

Conclusion

Blocking a website on a Mac is an efficient way to establish responsible internet usage or help you focus on tasks at hand. While there are many other methods of blocking websites, using your web browser’s built-in settings is the easiest and simplest way to ensure website blocks are in place. Try it out today, and enjoy a distraction-free browsing experience.
