Gmail vs. Outlook: Which Is the Better Email App for Android?

Email has significantly changed how we communicate, and having the right email app on your phone is crucial. In this article, we’ll be comparing two of the most popular email apps for Android: Gmail vs. Outlook.

Design and User Interface:

When it comes to design, both Gmail and Outlook offer clean and sleek interfaces. However, Gmail has a signature design that is recognizable, while Outlook has a more business-like approach. Surprisingly, Outlook’s design appeals to a massive range of users and is well-suited to handle the average workload of an email app.

Features:

Gmail and Outlook share a ton of standard features, including calendar integration, customizable notifications and email search. However, there are a few key features that set them apart. For instance, Gmail has automatic categorization of emails into Primary, Social and Promotions, while Outlook sorts emails by Focused and Other.

Moreover, Outlook comes with ‘People’ section, which consolidates your most frequently contacted people and highlights their recent communications. On the other hand, Gmail has ‘Smart Reply’, which analyzes the context of an email and suggests relevant short replies.

Productivity:

Gmail stands as Google’s primary email client and is closely integrated with other Google applications. As such, Gmail aligns best with Google Workspace, allowing for easy collaboration and file sharing with colleagues and project teams.

Outlook has robust Microsoft integration, supporting email and calendar integration with applications such as OneDrive, OneNote, Office 365 and Teams. Outlook also has a ‘Focused’ inbox that helps cut the noise and allows users to concentrate on important emails.

Security:

Both Gmail and Outlook apps have excellent security measures. Gmail comes with two-factor authentication, intelligent phishing protection, and anti-spam protocols backed with machine learning. On the other hand, Outlook allows encryption of outgoing emails, multi-factor authentication, and anti-phishing protection.

Conclusion:

When deciding between Gmail and Outlook, it ultimately depends on your preference and usage. Gmail is best for individuals who want a simple email client that is closely integrated with other Google applications, while Outlook is the best for users who want expansive Microsoft Office integration and need a business-centric email client. Their similarities and differences, however, render both apps fit for a variety of users, and each is a great choice for any Android device.
