Dynamic DNS (DDNS) is a technology that enables remote access to a device on a network with a variable IP address. With DDNS, you can host services such as web servers, file shares, and remote desktops, even if you don’t have a static public IP address. In this article, we’ll review some of the best free dynamic DNS providers available for you to use.

1. Duck DNS

Duck DNS is a free dynamic DNS service that’s easy to use and configure. It’s an open-source project that supports multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can set up your Duck DNS domain name in just a few minutes and start using it right away. Duck DNS integrates with most routers and supports IPv6, making it a great choice for small networks.

2. No-IP

No-IP is another popular dynamic DNS provider that offers free as well as paid plans. The free plan allows you to create up to three hostnames, which can be used to access your device remotely. No-IP also offers a Dynamic DNS Update Client, which automates the process of updating your IP address when it changes. The client works on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

3. Dynu

Dynu is a reliable and flexible dynamic DNS provider that offers both free and paid plans. The free plan allows you to create up to four hostnames and supports most operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. Dynu has a powerful API that lets you automate the process of updating your IP address. You can also manage your DNS records using Dynu’s web interface.

4. Afraid.org

Afraid.org is a popular dynamic DNS provider that offers free domain name services. The site provides multiple domain options, including subdomains and top-level domains, as well as many other features. Afraid.org allows you to add up to 50 domains to your account, depending on the level of account you create. The site is easy to set up and configure with most routers, and updates usually take only a few minutes.

5. ChangeIP

ChangeIP is a dynamic DNS provider that offers a free service called “FreeDNS.” The FreeDNS plan requires a one-time registration fee, which is very low. ChangeIP has a user-friendly control panel that lets you manage your domain names easily. FreeDNS supports multiple domain names and dynamic DNS clients. Overall, ChangeIP is a reliable option for individuals who need dynamic DNS services without breaking the bank.
