Finance jobs are more competitive than ever, so some college students are sitting for the industry’s most grueling exam before they even graduate

The finance industry has always been a competitive field, but with the current job market, it’s more challenging than ever to stand out in the crowd. In response, some enterprising college students are taking matters into their own hands by preparing for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam, one of the most rigorous and respected certifications in the industry, before they even graduate.

The CFA exam is a grueling three-level test that requires candidates to demonstrate a deep understanding of finance, accounting, and investment analysis. It’s not an easy feat, but for those who are determined to get ahead in the industry, it’s worth the effort.

According to a recent survey, the number of CFA exam takers has increased by 20% over the past two years, with many students opting to take the exam before graduation. This trend is not unique to any particular university or region, but rather a reflection of the growing importance of the CFA designation in the finance industry.

So, what drives these students to take the exam before graduation? For one, successful completion of the CFA program demonstrates a high level of financial knowledge and commitment to their career. It’s a testament to their dedication to becoming a top-notch finance professional. Additionally, the CFA exam offers a competitive edge in the job market, making it an attractive credential for students looking to stand out in a crowded field.

Many universities are now offering CFA review courses and prep programs specifically designed for students. These programs provide students with the necessary support and resources to tackle the exam, which can be helpful in an effort to alleviate some of the stress and uncertainty associated with preparing for the exam.

One such university is the University of Chicago, which has seen a significant increase in CFA exam takers among its students. According to the university’s finance department, having students take the exam before graduation is a key part of their career development strategy. “We’re committed to helping our students develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the finance industry,” said a spokesperson for the department. “By preparing for the CFA exam, our students can get a head start on their career and demonstrate their expertise to potential employers.”

Not everyone is convinced that taking the exam before graduation is the best approach, however. Some argue that students should focus on their education first and then worry about the exam. “It’s a lot of pressure to take on the exam before graduating,” said a student who chose to take the exam during their senior year. “I’m just trying to get through my coursework and focus on my studies first.”

Ultimately, the decision to take the CFA exam before graduation is a personal one, and it’s important for students to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision. For those who are willing to put in the hard work, however, it can be a game-changer in their finance career.

In conclusion, the decision to take the CFA exam before graduation is a testament to the growing competitiveness of the finance industry. With the right support and preparation, students can demonstrate their expertise and gain a competitive edge in the job market. As the finance industry continues to evolve, it’s likely that more students will follow suit and take the CFA exam before graduating.
