Charles Cyphers, best known for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the original “Halloween” franchise, has passed away at the age of 85. The news was confirmed by his family, who shared that he died peacefully in his sleep on November 25, 2023.

Cyphers’ portrayal of the stoic and determined Sheriff Brackett, who tirelessly pursued the masked killer Michael Myers in the 1978 classic, cemented his place in horror film history. He reprised the role in “Halloween II” (1981), “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” (1988), and “Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers” (1995).

Beyond his iconic role in the “Halloween” franchise, Cyphers had a long and distinguished career in film and television, appearing in numerous other projects. He was recognized for his roles in “The Exorcist II: The Heretic” (1977), “The Incredible Hulk” (1978), and “The Dukes of Hazzard” (1980).

Cyphers was a beloved figure in the horror community, known for his down-to-earth personality and genuine warmth. He often attended conventions and events, delighting fans with stories from his time on the set of “Halloween” and engaging in lively discussions about the horror genre.

His passing marks the loss of a true icon in the world of horror cinema. While he will be deeply missed by fans and fellow actors alike, his legacy as Sheriff Brackett, forever standing against the terror of Michael Myers, will continue to inspire generations of horror enthusiasts.
