The shrimp cocktail is a timeless and elegant appetizer perfect for any occasion, be it a fancy dinner party or a casual summer cookout. Succulent, plump shrimp cooked to perfection and chilled is the star of this dish, served with a tangy and mildly spiced sauce as the perfect accompaniment. Here’s our step-by-step guide to create the best shrimp cocktail recipe.

Ingredients:

– 1 pound large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined

– 1 lemon, halved

– 1 teaspoon salt

– Ice for chilling

For the cocktail sauce:

– 1 cup ketchup

– 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish

– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1 tablespoon lemon juice

– Hot sauce to taste (such as Tabasco)

– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the shrimp: Fill a large pot with water, add the salt and squeeze in the juice of one lemon half, then drop both squeezed halves into the pot. Bring the water to a rolling boil.

2. Cook the shrimp: Add the cleaned shrimp to the boiling water, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cook for approximately 2-3 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.

3. Chill the shrimp: As soon as they’re done cooking, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the boiling water and immediately submerge them in a bowl filled with ice water. This will stop their cooking process and ensure they stay tender.

4. Drain and dry: Once they’ve cooled down completely, drain the shrimp in a colander then pat them dry gently with paper towels.

5. Prepare cocktail sauce: In a medium mixing bowl, combine ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice from remaining lemon half, hot sauce to your desired spiciness, and salt and pepper to taste.

6. Serve: Arrange the chilled shrimp on a platter or individual cocktail glasses with the tangy cocktail sauce for dipping. Garnish with lemon wedges if desired.

Now your shrimp cocktail is ready to be served! Pair it with your favorite chilled white wine or signature cocktail, and you’ve got the perfect appetizer to impress your guests. With its simple preparation and show-stopping presentation, the best shrimp cocktail recipe will quickly become a go-to dish for any gathering. Enjoy!
